Now, govt textbooks are available in bookshops

Hyderabad: After a two-week wait, bookshops across the state have received stock ofTelangana State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) textbooks on Monday. Several schools in the city have placed orders and collected the consignment. Over 8,000 schools subscribe to SCERT books.

“The books are now available and we have already collected textbooks for classes 6 to 10 for our school. The English medium books are all only in English with no bilingual texts,” said Y Shekhar Rao of Telangana Recognised Schools Management Association (TRSMA).

The price of books have increased this year owing to rise in cost of paper. Around 1.25 crore books, both full textbooks and split textbooks, for bilingual English medium in the first summative year for all classes have been printed currently for distribution.

However, it is learnt that due to the delay several schools had printed their own workbooks or subscribed to other books and charged the parents. “The delay caused by the board in publishing books has allowed some schools to make money by subscribing to expensive books instead. The schools are also making self-made workbooks and charging separately,” a parent complained
