REOPEN SCHOOL CAMPAIGN
In India, the school closures during this pandemic is, without a doubt, one of the worst and longest disruptions in education. A prolonged closure of schools has had a substantial negative impact on children, as evidenced by our study – NISA’s National Level Survey on Learning Loss in School Education during the Pandemic”.
It estimated that students have fallen below two grade levels and the loss of learning has been greater in Mathematics than reading and writing (English and Mother Tongue) where severe mathematical challenges have been spotted across the three grades (3rd, 5th, and 8th). School shutdowns have been proven to negatively affect the emotional and mental health of children. During the pandemic, children confined to home experienced challenges within the family, 42.3% of them reported to have gone through stress, anxiety, and tension.
A majority of Indian households lack access to smartphones, computers, or the internet. Online classes are, therefore, unattainable for them. The report explicitly showed that 98.6% of the students preferred offline classes.
Dear NISA leaders, it is high time that we REOPEN SCHOOL.This pandemic has exacerbated the gap in the learning abilities of students from various socioeconomic strata. You can support this campaign by doing the following:
