NISA challenges order on vacations

The National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) has challenged the orders of the state government regarding winter vacations from December 25 to January 8. They submitted a representation at the office of Director, Secondary Education, today.

NISA had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against winter vacations and the court today directed the association to make a representation to the Director.

Kulbhushan Sharma, president of the association, said, “As per the Haryana School Education Rules, 2003, a total of 220 working days are mandatory and because of the public violence in the state caused by the followers of Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim in August, the schools have not been able to complete the mandated period. Now, the government has issued orders regarding winter vacations from December 25 to January 8.”

“It will have an adverse affect on studies and the students will not be able to complete their syllabus. We have sought directions from the court to curtail the vacations. Since the association had approached the court without making any representation to the Director, Secondary Education, the court today disposed off the petition and asked the association to make the representation to the Director first, who will pass a speaking order on January 1,” he added.

He said they had submitted the representation at the office of the Director as he was not available.
