CHANDIGARH: has
decided to resume Class VIII board exams in all government
and private schools, but the move has come under criticism
as it is learnt to be in contravention of National Education
Policy (NEP).
The move has also sent the managements of private schools,
especially those affiliated with or , in a tizzy. Earlier,
NEP had recommended to do away with even Class X board
exams. Last week, Board of School Education had
written to all schools and officials concerned to make
appropriate arrangements in the wake of the decision to
resume Class VIII board exams. The decision was taken by
the government last year.
Upet over the decision, the Haryana chapter of National
Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) and Haryana Private
Schools Managements’ Association have written to chief
minister and Prime Minister
. “This has made a mockery of the system. There is lack
of awareness among officials making policies. CBSE
categorically bars schools from having examinations and
affiliation from two education boards at one point of time.
This is the biggest blunder as most government schools too
have CBSE affiliation,” said Kulbhushan Sharma, president of
NISA.
Haryana education minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar confirmed
the representation made by schools associations on this
account. “He promised to look into the issue and take
corrective measures. We have already brought this to the
notice of the administrative secretary of the department and
Haryana education department senior officers in the office of director general of education.
We have sought clarification from them. We shall sort this out at the earliest,” said Gujar.
